Delta Zeta Sorority Statement (February 25, 2007)
Many of you are concerned, and rightfully so, about the recent articles regarding our chapter at DePauw.
Recent press has mischaracterized the process in place at DePauw. If any of you have specific questions regarding any press, please feel free to contact me.
Please know that in reviewing the chapter’s status, the Delta Zeta national organization heeded the advice of the DePauw University officials in crafting a possible solution. This resulted in working closely with the chapter to partner with those women who expressed a deep commitment to the mission and guiding principles of Delta Zeta and who would work diligently to rebuild and partner to meet the chapter’s recruitment, service and leadership goals.
Delta Zeta national headquarters also worked with those chapter members who chose to be relieved of collegiate membership responsibilities and transition to alumnae membership status.
We will continue to operate in good faith for the betterment of the University, their students, Delta Zeta members and alumnae, and the fraternal system.
As we move forward, we will make every effort to find a consensus solution for our DePauw chapter. The national organization stands by its open invitation to members and DePauw University officials to partner together in supporting the former and current members of the chapter. Delta Zeta's national leadership will continue to seek opportunities to work in an open and fair manner with members and DePauw University. The Delta Zeta national organization looks forward to creating a solution that is win-win-win: one that (1) benefits and protects our members and alumnae, (2) supports the University by maintaining a viable Chapter for the benefit of current and future students, and (3) meets the membership and business obligations of the national organization.
The Delta Zeta national organization is saddened that the isolated incident at DePauw has been mischaracterized. We hope as we all continue to resolve these issues, this misunderstanding helps others to work on continual improvement of communication as we all have the mutual goal of the betterment of collegiate life.
