Don Quixote Opera

Based on one of the greatest literary works of all time, this opera sets “the impossible dream” to almost impossibly uplifting music by Massenet. Two opera superstars, Ferruccio Furlanetto and Denyce Graves, will captivate you as Don Quixote and his beloved Dulcinea. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll think. And, most of all, you’ll be glad you saw it!

Pre-opera: Our group has two options. #1 is to meet in front of the opera at 12:45 p.m. for a backstage tour. Teresa Norton, Delta Delta Delta, will be there to gather us. #2 is to meet inside the opera at 1 p.m. for a lecture. The opera begins at 2 p.m. Both options are complimentary.

Post-opera: Following the opera, join the entire group at La Grand Tapa to continue the Don Quixote glow with tapas, wine and a demonstration of flamenco dancing. This is an optional event for $29.50 with a minimum sign-up of 50 people by February 13. (La Grand Tapa, www.lagrantapa.com, is a five-minute walk from the opera at the Civic Theatre.)

Why not think about making this an afternoon for the whole family? If you have questions, please email SDAP at info@sdaph.org.

The website will also point you to other opportunities to enhance your opera experience: free Artists’ Roundtables at the Civic Theatre; the Opera Insight Lecture presented in three locations around San Diego County; OperaTalk! with Nick Reveles on TV; episodes online, on YouTube and in podcast form.
