Summer Jazz & Wine Festival

Each year we hold a summer fundraiser. For August 2007, we had a Jazz & Wine Festival in Carlsbad, CA. Heck Estates generously supplies wines from their Kenwood & Valley of the Moon vineyards.

Here is a list of the six wines that were poured. They are listed in the order that they were poured. You can print this list and take it to your local store for reference. If you store does not carry then wine, then please ask a store employee about whether they carry it or will have it in the future. Stores are interested in carrying wines you would like to purchase.

Bright and fresh aromas of raspberry and strawberry are followed by the flavor of berries and red cherry with nuances of passion fruit and spiciness. The finish carries these flavors through with a delicate balance of acidity and creamy texture.

Lively varietal aromas of grass, Meyer lemon and freshly cut honeydew melon. Fresh and crisp, with lively body and a lingering finish.

Rich character with aromas of tropical fruits, lemon zest and Bartlett pears, viscous mouth feel with a smooth finish.

Intense aromas of blackberries, figs and dried currants with hints of black pepper and licorice; full-bodied, rich flavors with smooth tannins and a long finish.

Aromas of black cherry and cassis are enhanced with with hints of vanilla, anise and rosemary. Complex and concentrated fruit flavors are integrated with subtle oak and black pepper notes. The elegance and length of these flavors are supported by supple tannins and balanced acidity.
The 2002 Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich, concentrated wine with aromas of red currants black cherries, and plums followed by aromatic notes of French oak, spice and black licorice. It exhibits excellent structure that is characterized by its full-bodied mouth feel, smooth tannins and lingering, silky finish. This Artist Series was bottle aged before release making it very drinkable now but it should continue to improve for at least another decade.

In addition, there were two other cocktail wines that were available for pouring and can still be purchased at $10 bottle. Proceeds from the sales will go to support SDAP high school scholarships.

Aroma of black cherry, dark chocolate and hints of sage and toasted oak. Currant and black cherry fruit flavors are enhanced with black pepper and baking spice notes. The elegant and concentrated flavors are supported by well-balanced acidity and supple tannins for a long seamless finish.

Aromas of tropical citrus and vanilla followed by flavors of nectarine and spice. The rich, full-bodied texture is accented by hints of butter and oak, and balanced with bright green apple acidity on the finish.
